I have Grave of the Firelies on my shelf …still in the wrapping, because I’ve never been brave enough to watch it, or in need of that much depression :)
]]>Mononoke all the way – not only is it a far more original, thoughtful tale with less cliched characters to my mind, but I always feel like earlier Ghibli movies did most of the good bits of Spirited Away better.
Grave of the Fireflies is also very good, but I will never, ever watch it again (oh god the sads).
]]>I think so, yes!
]]>I have seen neither.

]]>Hang on… aren’t I still on the fence? Urk!
I like what Mononoke does very much with rejection of heroine romance endings and with Lady Eboshi, who is complex and sympathetic. I wish Mononoke herself got a few more lines- I think the movie crams a *lot* in (Ghibli does, mind).
Anyone seen Kiki’s Delivery Service or Nausicaa?
]]>Others on twitter are also hoping they will be allowed to love both. But no! GET OFF THE FENCE, I SAY
]]>Markgraf is on the fence. He says “BOTH”.
PEACE IS NOT AN OPTION
]]>Sarah C sends in from twitter that “Lady Eboshi ROCKS”. Ay thank yew.
